As its title indicates, Craft Arts International recognised the changes that were occurring across the spectrum of visual arts practice worldwide and sought to document them from an Australian perspective. Over the years the magazine has become an important influence in art education. It is listed as recommended reading on the art syllabus of thousands of high schools throughout Australia, and the Examining Board of the Higher School Certificate, on occasion, requests permission to use extracts from Craft Arts International in the formulation of the HSC art examinations.

Craft Arts International has played a major role in furthering international exchange among individual artists and arts organisations. A decade ago it arranged to take the first group of 10 professional Australian craftspeople to the US (with assistance from the Australia Council) for participation in the Rosen Agency’s highly successful trade show of handmade work, “The Buyers’ Market of American Craft”, at Valley Forge, near Philadelphia. This initiative launched the international careers of some members of this original group of designer/ makers who have since established export markets for their production work in the US and Europe.
